Layan first became involved with CTJA as a senior in high school from Farmington, CT. She will be working towards pursuing an undergraduate degree in Political Science & Arabic and Islamic Civilizations at the University of Connecticut.

Her proudest accomplishment thus far has been founding and serving as Chair for the 501(c)(4) non-profit Pathways for Yemen (PFY). Although PFY is currently no longer actively running, Layan continues to advocate for international issues throughout the Middle Eastern and North African region.

Layan’s core values revolve around community, learning, and peace. She is confident in her advocacy, communication, and teamwork skills; hoping to continue utilizing these strengths for years to come. With multiple of her family members previously being incarcerated, she is passionate about advocating for positive change within the criminal justice system.
